UNIVERSALISTS FAIL TO BALANCE THE ATTRIBUTES OF GOD
For us to be rightly dividing the word of truth and to be accurate on the Biblical doctrines, we should pay utmost care in balancing the attributes of God such as love, righteousness, holiness, and wrath of God. The universalists always give special attention to ignore the wrath of God verses and the judgment verses. Bible talks about the wrath of God and the terror of God also. 2 COR 5:11 Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences. “Strait (small) is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it” (Matthew 7:14).
There is no question that God is love. But this truth cannot be separated from the whole nature of God. He is also perfect righteousness (Psalm 116:5), perfect light (1 John 1:5), and eternal holiness (Revelation 4:8). Under no circumstances may we emphasize one characteristic of God over the other, but we must let the Bible stand as it is. If God is love and mercy only, then why God did not at first forgive Lucifer and Adam and solve the matter right then? RATHER GOD HAS A SET OF LAWS MADE KNOWN AND ALL HAVE TO ABIDE BY. OR ELSE PUNISHMENT ENDUES.
God is not obligated to anyone to make punishment just reformative. When the subjects are willing to be reformed, the punishment will acquire retributive and even destructive character and dimensions even in hell which will be a reality for the hard-core rebels. God has not revealed that He will show mercy to the rebels in hell. But why take the risk of hoping to get out of the hell while you have opportunity right now not to go to hell? Instead, of expecting to get out of hell, why not avoid getting into hell?
BASIC QUESTIONS THE UNIVERSALISTS FAIL TO ADDRESS AND ANSWER
- If all that God desires is going to happen, then the other side of the argument is that, nothing that God desires not, also should not happen. And if so, were the fall of Lucifer and the fall Adam in accordance with the desire of God?
- If the road to life is narrow according to Jesus, then why do you preach that all are saved, and thereby making the narrow road extremely broad?
- Consider the argument that, even the thief with Jesus was saved. But the counter question arises, to the discomfort of the universalists. Let us see Luke chapter 23:39 onwards. And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us. But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou are in the same condemnation? And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man has done nothing amiss. And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when you come into you kingdom. And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto you, Today shall you be with me in paradise. HERE THE UNIVERSALIST THIEF WHO WAS UNREPENTENT, THOUGHT THAT THE SALVATION IS AUTOMATIC IN JESUS. BUT HE WAS REBUKED BY THE OTHER THIEF WHO WAS NOT A UNIVERSALIST. He repented, prayed to Jesus and requested His help. And you see Jesus quickly responded, and offered him salvation. In fact this particular passage is enough to prove that the doctrine of universalism is absolutely wrong. If some reject the gospel and go to hell by their own free will, that does not mean that God is a failure.
- Again, consider another issue regarding the previous issue of the need for repentance in salvation. That is why we read in Acts chapter 17:30-31. And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commands all men everywhere to repent: Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he has given assurance unto all men, in that he has raised him from the dead. Here it is very clear that, there is no automatic salvation. Because it is stated here that God commands all men everywhere to repent: Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness. Man must repent because God is going to judge the world.
- The next question is about 2 Cor 4:3-4. It says: But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. How do you explain this passage? What do you mean by them that are lost?
- How will you explain Jn 3:16 onwards. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believes on him is not condemned: but he that believes not is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hates the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that does truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God. I repeat, the Bible says, He that believes on him is not condemned: but he that believes not is condemned already, Hence I believe that only those who are believing are saved. Those who reject Jesus are already condemned. But the universalist is saying that even those who are not believing are already saved. But the Bible says that those who are not believing, are already condemned. You see that these two positions are diametrically opposite and contradictory. Because, one is from God and the other is from the devil, who is the father of lies. It is very clear.
CLEAR BIBLE SOLUTION TO THEIR ERROR
THE GOD SIDE OF THE REDEMPTIVE WORK IS FINISHED - BUT MAN IS OFTEN NOT WILLING TO RECONCILE AND RESPOND TO GOD’S CALL.
From God’s side of the redemptive work is finished. Bible does not use the term “reconciled” in the past tense to convey the idea that all are already saved. Rather the Bible gives the sense that God was pleased to reconcile all men. God is willing to reconcile all and did all the background work required for it. But many men are not willing to accept God’s offer of salvation in Jesus Christ. God will not save any man violating the free will of man.
THE FACT THAT MANY ARE NOT WILLING TO RECONCILE WITH GOD IS PROVED FROM THE VERSES IN WHICH GOD AND EVANGELISTS PLEAD MEN TO BE RECONCILED BEFORE TIME TO ESCAPE JUDGEMENT. 2 COR 5:20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God. 2 COR 5:11 Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.
THOSE WILLING TO BE RECONCILED TO GOD BY FAITH IN JESUS BOTH IN HEAVEAN AND EARTH WILL BE SAVED. HENCE ONLY THOSE WHO COME INTO CHRIST WILL BE RECONCILED. RECONCILIATION REQUIRES THE FREE WILL ACTION OF THE 2 PARTIES. THOSE WHO DON’T RECONCILE TO GOD IN FREE WILL, CANNOT BE RECONCILED BUT WILL BE SUBDUED AND THROWN INTO HELL.
MAN IS NOT SAVED BY GOD’S FAITH WITHOUT ANY HUMAN RESPONSE TO GOD’S GRACE IN JESUS CHRIST. THE UNIVERSALISTS MISINTERPRET THE BIBLE PASSAGES TO THE EFFECT OF MINIMIZING OR EVEN NEGATING ANY HUMAN RESPONSIBILITY IN SALVATION. THEY SIMPLY FAIL TO GRASP THE MEANING OF FAITH. Mark 11:22 has the phrase, "Have faith in God". Other translations read, "Have the faith of God. Those are the two most common renderings.
some people argue that the Greek should really read, "Have the God kind
of faith" or "Have the faith of God". The genitive case may indicate a “genus” or “kind” and can mean that Jesus’s phrase involves the “God-kind of faith.”The real meaning of PISTIS, when interpreted to mean faith, is "trust", not "believe something to be true". Some people use the "God kind of faith" expression to argue that the real meaning of faith is to adventurously believe in conditions which are contrary to reality and that the measure of our faith can be calculated by the extent of the extraordinary claims made. This is contrary to the Biblical teaching.
MAN MUST RESPOND AND THE FAITH OF MAN MUST MEET THE FAITH OF GOD. WHETHER FAITH IN GOD OR FAITH OF GOD (GOD-KIND OF FAITH) – MAN CANNOT ESCAPE HIS RESPONSIBILITY AS LONG AS HE HAS FREE WILL. And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God (Mk 11:22). Some claim it should be translated as “Have the faith of God,” or “Have the God-kind of faith,” instead of the “Have faith in God.” It is true that Faith originates with God; and those who have real faith have God’s faith, in the sense they get it as a gift from God. I am crucified with Christ: neverthless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. (Gal 2:20). FAITH OF GOD MEANS that Faith is a gift of God, which “Comes by hearing”.
THE SCHEME OF RECONCILIATION IS FOR ALL THINGS OF HEAVEN AND EARTH BUT NOT OF HELL. IN THE DISPENSATION OF THE FULNESS OF TIMES GOD WILL RECONCILE ALL THINGS OF HEAVEN AND EARTH. BUT BY THE TIME THE REBELS ARE ALREADY SENT TO HELL. Eph 1:9-10 Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: THAT IN THE DISPENSATION OF THE FULLNESS OF TIMES he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him. Thus all things in earth and heaven will be in harmony with God and reconciled with him. Before that day comes, all those who refuse to be reconciled by his blood will be cast into “outer darkness” Mt 8:12, so that it is not reckoned to be a part of the new heavens and the new earth. The rebels in hell will simply not be part of the “all things” which fill the new heavens and the new earth. They will be separated in hell, “outside” of the new reality of Heaven.
The liberals assume that “ALL THINGS” IN THE UNIVERSE NOW will someday be reconciled to God. But it is not exactly like that. Because many other passages disprove it. They come to this false conclusion because they use one obscure passage to refute hundreds of other clear passages which deal with the issues pertaining to this same subject. In the future, the day is coming when “all things” that are in the new heavens and the new earth will be entirely reconciled to God, with no rebels in it. BUT ACCORDING TO THE LAW OF FAITH OF THIS DISPENSATION those who reject Jesus end up in hell. We cannot accurately speculate about their salvation. If God saves them all, is it good. BEFORE THE CONCLUSIVE AND ULTIMATE RECONCILIATION OF THE FAITHFUL OCCURS, THE REBELS WILL BE SUBJECTED AND CAST INTO HELL. In the future, even all the rebels will have to submit to Christ. But this will not be their expression of faith in Jesus, but the victory of Jesus. The subjection is not the reconciliation, but the unconditional surrender of an enemy to a victor. THIS IS WHAT WE SEE IN PHILIPPIANS 2:9-11. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. The same event is referred to also in 1 COR 15:24-28Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him. And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.
